6 Categories of crime
1. Visible crime – “Ordinary crime”. The acts the public considers criminal. Examples include everything from shoplifting to homicide.
2. Victimless crime – Offenses against morality. Involve a willing + private exchange of goods or services. Examples include prostitution, drug use, and gambling.
3. Occupational crime – Crimes committed within the context of a legal business or profession. Example includes internal theft by employees.
4. Organized crime – Refers to a social framework or network within which criminal acts are committed. Example includes MAFIA, GANGS.
5. Political crime – Criminal acts committed be or against the government. Carried out for ideological purposes. These criminals believe they are following a morality that is above the law . Example includes bombing an abortion clinic.
6. Cyber crime – Crime that involves the internet or computers. . Example includes stealing funds, identity theft, and distribution of pornography.
